Seguramente si fuéramos conscientes del proceso de fabricación de los numerosos objetos con los que tenemos una relación cotidiana y el impacto que estos tienen en el medio ambiente, cambiaríamos la forma de consumirlos.
Un claro ejemplo es el aluminio. Se extrae del mineral bauxita, una roca de colores rojizos que por transformación se convierte primero en alúmina y a continuación en aluminio metálico. Durante este proceso se crean lagos artificiales de residuos indisolubles procedentes del tratamiento de la bauxita. Estos lagos rojos son altamente contaminantes y corrosivos.
Las mesas “Alúmina” hacen referencia a dicha problemática, replanteándose el uso que damos a este tipo de materiales. La forma de las mesas es la misma que la de la superficie de uno de los lagos artificiales más grandes de España, así como su color rojizo que también tiene relación con el de la bauxita.
Certainly, if we were aware of the manufacturing process of the numerous objects we have a daily relationship with and the impact they have on the environment, we would change the way we consume them.
A clear example is aluminum. It is extracted from the mineral bauxite, a reddish-colored rock that is transformed first into alumina and then into metallic aluminum. During this process, artificial lakes of insoluble waste are created from the treatment of bauxite. These red lakes are highly polluting and corrosive.
The "Alumina" tables refer to this issue, reconsidering the use we give to such materials. The shape of the tables is the same as the surface of one of the largest artificial lakes in Spain, as is their reddish color, which is also related to that of bauxite.
